Review of the 2017 SLC 43 AMG

Everyone knows AMG models have been known for their big and brutal V8 Engines. The 63, 65 or even 55 AMG have produced massive power and an amazing sound experience. Well Mercedes Benz came out with a new generation and series of Engines for the first time, what we know as the 43-AMG. Mercedes is replacing the old SLK 55 with the current SLC43 AMG. They say it is just 0.1 seconds slower to 60 than the old 55 AMG.

Performance and 0-60 time

In the SLC 43 AMG is a 3-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 362bhp between 5500 and 6000rpms with it's 384lb ft torque. The amazing V6 twin-turbo or also called BiTurbo Engine has an amazing sound to the AMG performance Exhaust and an incredible 0-62 time in just 4.6 - 4.7 seconds. Mercedes introduced the 9G automatic gearbox to the little sporty Roadster. Dynamic Select offers five different driving modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual) that provide different variations in engine, transmission and steering setting, which put a big smile on your face.

How does it feel to drive the Sporty Roadster?

Select Sport+ via Dynamic Select and the throttle looses, the exhaust valve opens and the steering gets stiffer.
It is almost impossible not to spin the rear tires in first or even second gear since it isn't available in 4matic and the whole power goes straight to the rear wheels.
The body of the car is well controlled and grips on the road with an unbelievable sporty feeling.
Between 3rd and 4th gear the paddle shifters really come in place because the shifting is instant due to the 9-speed gearbox. There is no lag or delay while shifting up or down.
The exhaust is showing off a nice and loud crackle and rumble. Everywhere you go people turn their heads around for the nice and beautiful look of the two seat Roadster.

Interior and size

Since the SLC is knows as the little brother of the big Mercedes SL Roadster there is clearly a big price and also space difference.
The SLC has a good bit of space and is a lot of fun with the roof down. Compartment space is limited and only made for special items. It is possible to store items on each side of the door and in the center compartment. Two cup holders are good enough since it is a convertible with two seats, there is no need for more than two drinks. The trunk also offers enough room for luggage and some personal items. Keep in mind there will be more trunk space once the roof is closed, since it folds up into the trunk and takes a lot of space away.

Besides the space and compartments, the interior is beautiful. Nothing much has changed since the old SLK but you have a lot of nice options. The Sport Seats are comfortable on longer rides and the optional neck scarf is just amazing when having the top down or even up. The screen is big enough and offers a lot of options. Within the Premium two package the SLC offers Command Navigation, Harman/Kardon Sound System, Led ambient lighting, Active LED Headlamps with curve illumination. Engine and Vehicle Data on the screen and a mobile hotspot is everything you need. The sound system is clear and sounds amazing even with the top down. Burmester took over Harman/Kardon in the newer models what really sounds amazing and clear. But honestly Harman/Kardon offers more bass instead of the new crystal clear sound quality. The leather on the doors feels and looks expensive. The dashboard has a great resolution and offers an AMG menu that shows different temperature options, race timer and driving modes.

What else is there to say?

Overall the SLC43 is a fun Roadster. A big engine with a lovely sound and a stunning interior is everything you need. It can be a fun weekend car or a daily driver due to the Dynamic Select you can chose what mode you like the best. Driving to work perhaps you just want to cruise on the highway, but later on take a spin on some backroads with your wife or girlfriend and listen to the wonderful exhaust note. The cabin is quite and you won't feel like driving a roadster with the roof closed since there is a nice sunroof included in the metal hard top.
